The Lyndon State Women's Volleyball team is still seeking its first win of the season after Wednesday's contest against New Hampshire Technical Institution in Concord, N.H.
The Lady Hornets record stands at 0-8 after dropping its latest match against NHTI, 3-1. Lyndon lost the first two sets, but fought back to win the third set before losing the fourth.
Senior outside hitter Erica Ponte said youth could have something to do with it.
"We are a young team," she said, "and we're still getting used to playing with each other. "
Ponte, one of only three seniors on the team, has played all four years of her collegiate career.
Lyndon has a tough non-conference schedule that includes matches against Montclair State University (8-3) and St. Joseph's College of Maine (5-1). Sophomore Middle Hitter Ariel Wright said this tough competition will benefit the Lady Hornets.
"The goal is to take that hard work and put it towards the teams in our conference," she said.
Despite their youth and tough schedule, the team is optimistic about their future.
"We have a solid 12 girls with a lot of talent," Ponte said. "We just have to prove it on the court."
Ponte's hopes for her team extend beyond the regular season.
"This is by far the best team we've ever had," she said, "and I can see us making it past the first round of the playoffs, which is something the team has never done."
Lyndon State travels to Johnson State College for a doubleheader this Saturday, where they will play Johnson State (0-6) at 11:00 a.m., and SUNY Cobleskill (2-3) at 1:00 p.m.
